My Story
Rose Road is the most incredible charity and such a special place. I'm privilaged to work with an amazing group of people doing their best to provide the highest levels of support and care to disabled children; young adults and their families.
Every day I'm reminded of the need for services like ours to exist but whilst demand for our services continues to grow, funding such vital provision is becoming a real challenge.
Families tell us that our support helps them feel rested and improves their mental wellbeing. We give them a break to sleep, go shopping and do simple things for themselves. They function better as a unit, stay in work and manage change and crises with greater reslience.
Families feel less isolated and experience improved relationships with family members and friends.
We give families a bigger voice and the right tools to get the help and support they need from the services available to them.
For years I've wanted to compete in an Ironman event but I've never really had the commitment to do so. However, in January, I weighed the heaviest I've ever been and was spurred on to re-join a gym and do something about it but I needed something to focus on - a goal. And so, after a couple of bottles of wine, I signed up to take part in Weymouth 70.3. For the past 4 months I've been getting up at 5.30 most mornings to run, cycle, swim or complete a weights session. They say it's not the event that's the hard bit - it's the training. And they're not wrong. It's been such a commitment but if I can raise vital funds for such an amazing cause then it's worth every early morning alarm, every mile, every expletive as I cycle into a headwind and all of the bits inbetween. Please donate however much you can - I assure you, every pound makes such a difference. Thanks :)
